Our Mission

KeepVolunteering.org is a Grassroots effort non-profit corporation, that is working to obtain our 501c3 Status.  We operate exclusively for disaster relief purposes. Specifically, we meet the needs of those affected by disasters located within a 500-mile radius of the City of Huntsville and Madison County, Alabama.

KeepVolunteering.org is for the community, made up by the community.

KeepVolunteering.org is a part of the Grassroots Volunteers of the Southeast. So you ask us, who are Grassroots Volunteers? They are your congregations, your families, individuals, and the community-based organizations. They are the everyday ordinary Joe’s and Jane’s who have the heart and the resources to help those in need.

KeepVolunteering.org is just another set of hands and feet for those people to plug in where they are needed. KeepVolunteering.org is the “little people” connecting other “little people” that get the job done quickly, with as little red tape as possible.

Alice & Donald Brown – Creators

“We created this site in order to plug in ‘the people.’  We represent the average Jane and Joe of your community.  Our services and abilities to volunteer were there, but not being utilized like they should.  We knew despite all the responsibilities and obligations in our lives, we could find a way to volunteer.

Our goal was to think of a way that we could be put to use, help the victims, and get others (like us) plugged in and utilize their main skills to help is disasters.”

After the outbreak of the EF4 and EF5 tornadoes that took their toll on the south in April,KeepVolunteering.org was created to better connect people and make them aware of how they can help those affected. We noticed a gap in communication between organizations and the people living in this community. Our goal is to close that gap and to connect people who want to volunteer with those in need in the community.

When volunteering the weeks after the tornadoes, we realized that there was a great need for a resource to bring all the volunteer options for disaster relief to the table. People were not only disconnected by the lack of electricity and telephones but also by the lack of resources to find a way to help those in need. Everyone knows about the Red Cross, United Way, and FEMA but not everyone knows what it takes to volunteer with these organizations or that there are MANY other organizations begging people to step in and help.

Another misconception we noticed is that volunteering with these organizations takes a long term commitment that comes with having to get certifications in order to volunteer. Really it is literally an hour by hour commitment and you are matched with a volunteer need that best fits your skills. On this site you will find many opportunities to volunteer with several types of organizations.

There is a sense of urgency in getting this site up in order to connect the public, so please stick with us as we grow and expand our capabilities. If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns please send them our way!

People still need help. People still need you! KeepVolunteering.org has a goal to strengthen communities by making it easier for good people and good causes to connect in order to serve the people in need!
